Francis G. ‘Mike’ Hoefer, 82

OSWEGO, NY – Francis G. “Mike” Hoefer, 82, a resident of Murray Street, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late Walter and Mary (Day) Hoefer and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

He was employed with Raichles Linoleumm and Carpenters’ Local #747 working at the nuclear plants.

He was a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Stephen’s Church.

He loved fishing, hunting and gardening and playing darts and horseshoes.

Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Kapuscinski; his children, Francis Hoefer of Oswego, David (Diane) Hoefer of Oswego, Dr. Michael (Kathy) Hoefer of Georgia, Cindy Meeker of Oswego, Christine (Chip) Pelton of Oswego, Therese Stevens of Oswego, Mary (John) Stevens of Oswego and Helen Bunting of Winterhaven Fla.; two brothers, William (Ann) Hoefer and Tom (Kay) Hoefer both of Oswego; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Hoefer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Stephen’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.

  1. Mr. Hoefer was like a father to me growing up. He was a very loving and giving man and will be greatly missed! Our prayers to his family and friends.

    “God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon his earth and saw your tired face. He puts his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s Garden must be beautiful,He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills too hard to climb so he closed your weary eyes and whispered; ‘Peace be Thine’. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone for part of us went with you the day God called you home. “
