OSWEGO, NY – John Mazzoli, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Thursday November 12, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer and heart complications.
He was born in Oswego, the son of the late Angelo and Rose (Giaquinto) Mazzoli.
John enjoyed a rewarding career of more than 30 years at Alcan Aluminum in Oswego before retiring in 1987 as the supervisor of the Remelt Department.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a military police sergeant.
John was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Oswego.
John will be remembered to his devotion for his family and friends, for his love of birds and nature and for his passion for gardening and landscaping.
He was a gentleman, friend, mentor, neighbor, giver and a man who appreciated hard work, honesty and integrity.
He took great pride in his family and home.
John was always there to lend a hand, to listen and to brighten someone’s day.
The memory of a good person is a blessing and the legacy of John’s kind spirit was a gift to all who knew him.
John will truly be missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria (Bernys) Mazzoli; daughters, Cheryl (Mazzoli) Masuicca and Lynn (Don) Voutsinas; a son, John Mazzoli Jr.; a brother, George Mazzoli of New Haven; a half-brother, James (Robin) Pagliaroli of Ohio; eight grandchildren including his granddaughter, Alecia Masuicca to whom John had a special devotion to; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his siblings: Angelo Mazzoli, Edward Mazzoli, Frank Mazzoli, Louis Mazzoli, Florence Coffin, Susan Cernaro, Joseph Piano and Mary Fetheroff; half-brothers: Robert Pagliaroli and Thomas Piano; and half-sister, Frances Laurie.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with a service to follow the hours.

Having known John for 45 years, I agree wholeheartedly with the things said here. John was everything written and more, so I won’t bother repeating. He was definitely one of the best bosses that I ever had at Alcan and very simply a good guy. He will surely be remembered fondly by those that knew him.
My condolences, I pass on to his family and to John, I return his trademark ‘moustache tweak’ along with a smiling nod. Anyone that ever worked with and for John will recognize my gesture. Rest well John, good job.
