Mary R. Woods, 95

OSWEGO, NY – Mary R. Woods, 95, a resident of East Tenth Street, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 18, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Minnie (Bird) Rossiter and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

Mrs. Woods was a bookkeeper at several small businesses in the Oswego area.

Mary was a volunteer at the Human Concerns Center, treasuer of the Oswego City Women’s Club and was on the board at the Ladies Home.

She was an avid golfer and an excellent bridge player.

Surviving are her three daughters, Nancy Caveny of Baldwinsville, Sandra Rose of Tucson Ariz. and Mary Carol Magistro of Oswego; 15 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cavney) Sterling, Matthew, Casey, Kevin and Lauren Caveny, Stephanie (Rose) Rising, Jason Rose, Jenna, Tara, James and David Wyman, Kristopher Holloway, Mark Magistro Jr. and Brandon and Ben Woods; nine great-grandchildren; and three nephews, David Rossiter, Robert Rossiter and William Rombough.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Woods Sr., in 1999; and her son, Robert E. Woods Jr., in 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St.Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

  1. She was a great lady. I remember her as our den mother in Cub Scouts. One day, the snack we had was a new product, just on the market – Jiffy Pop!
    We all sat around and watched with our mouths open as the foil ball over the pan grew and grew.
    She always had sonething special for us.
    She can now spend time with the two men in her life’ Bob Sr and Bobby.
    I will miss them all, but always have good memories of them.
