OSWEGO, NY – Robert G. Izyk Sr., 73, a resident of Oswego passed away on Tuesday February 14, 2017, at Oswego Hospital.
Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late Richard and Mary (Emlaw) Izyk Sr. and had attended Oswego schools.
He was employed as a laborer with Laborers’ Local #214 (#633 Syracuse) for almost 30 years.
Mr. Izyk was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1962-1966.
He was a member of the Oswego Sportsman’s #35 Club and was a former member of the Oswego Polish Club, Oswego Country Club and the VFW #5885.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing golf.
He enjoyed spending a month a year in Myrtle Beach.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Margaret Kray; a son, Robert (Sue Knopp) Izyk Jr. of Oswego; a granddaughter, Allison (Jose) Coronado; a great-granddaughter, Kahleeci; two brothers, Richard Izyk Jr. of Minetto and Paul (Ann) Izyk of Oswego; and a sister, Ann (Hank) Osinga of Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from St.Stephen’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 E. Lyons St., East Syracuse NY 13057 or a charity of choice.
