Ioan G. ‘Jonesy’ Jones, 88

FULTON, NY – Ioan G. Jones, 88, of Fulton passed peacefully at home on Sunday June 10, 2012.

Born in Maine, his father’s ministry took him to Wales, New Zealand, Newfoundland and finally settling in Fulton, where he had lived for more than 60 years.

Jonesy retired from Sealright Co., Fulton, after more than 30 years.

After retirement, he had worked at Sanford and Burtis Fire Equipment.

Jonesy was a member of the Fulton Lions Club and Fulton Historical Society.

He was also a member of Fulton First United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed woodworking and had a love of music that he had passed along to his children.

He was a World War II Pacific Theatre veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Jonesy was predeceased by his wife, Natalie “Sis” Meagher Jones, who passed away in 1993.

He was greatly loved and will be missed by Carrie Palmer, whose companionship and love over the last decade made his life more enjoyable; five children, Megan (John) Galletta of Fulton, James (Cindy) Jones of Hastings, Sue (Edward) Kasperek of Fulton, Thomas (Jeri) Jones of Fulton and Julia (Paul) Hopman of Hannibal; nine grandchildren, Kate, Jen, Laura, Chris, Andy, Nick, Mo, Jim and Dan; beloved great-granddaughter, Mylah and great-grandson Liam.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Seventh Street, Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jonesy may be made to Fulton First United Methodist Church Music Memorial Fund, 1408 State Route 176, Fulton, NY 13069.

  3. Jonesy was a great guy, my sponsor in the Lions Club (he sponsored more members than anyone). He made our meetings lively and fun, always willing to poke fun at himself to get a laugh. I’ll always remember him with a smile, my condolences to his family and Carrie.

  4. He was wonderful to talk with before and after service on Sunday at Church. We will miss him greatly, and we extend our prayers to his family.
