Jane Scruton, 69

HANNIBAL, NY – Jane Scruton, 69, of Oswego, died Tuesday June 26, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Fulton, she was a life resident of the Hannibal-Oswego area.

Jane was a mail carrier for 40 years and had retired from the Pennellville Post Office.

She was previously a nurse’s aide at Oswego Hospital on the Extended Care Floor.

Jane was a 20-year member of the Hannibal Volunteer Fire Company, had served as Director of
Operations for the ambulance service and on the Board of Directors.

She was a six-year member of the Hannibal Fire Company Auxiliary and had served as assistant
treasurer.

Jane was president of the Hannibal Historical Society and a member of the Oswego Town Historical Society.

In 2011, Jane was awarded the Hannibal Alumni Association Person of the Year.

Jane volunteered for American Red Cross, Oswego County D.A.T. Team and Oswego County Hospice.

Jane was a wonderful giving person, seamstress and crafty lady.

She was the life of a group or meeting and enjoyed the farm, animals, camping, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening and cooking for a house full.

Surviving: her companion of 22 years, Hugh Lewis of Oswego; children, Beckey McCarthy of Potstown, Pa., Cindy (Daniel) Gonzales of Round Rock, Texas and Carl (Trisha) Scruton of Hannibal; step-children, Mark (Jeanne) Lewis of Oswego, Michelle (Bill) Snyder of Oswego and Daniel (Barb) Lewis of West Monroe; sister, Jean Lewis of Oswego; a brother, Robert (Patricia) Coe of Oswego; step-sister, Loramae Martin of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal.

Burial will be private.

Calling hours will be Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 837 Cayuga St.,  Hannibal.
