Sarah L. ‘Sally’ McMillen, 82

HANNIBAL, NY – Sarah L. “Sally” McMillen, 82 of Sterling, died Sunday, September 9, 2012, at University Hospital in Syracuse.

A native of Oswego, she had resided in Sterling most of her life.

Sally had served as Sterling Town Clerk and as a tax collector from 1976-1996.

She was a member and organist of the Sterling United Methodist Church and was active as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and senior choir member.

Sally enjoyed travelling by car to any destination that the driver chose, playing solitaire and solving crossword puzzles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul McMillen, in 2003.

Surviving are her children, Joanne (David) Scruton of Hannibal and Blair McMillen of Sterling; grand-daughters, Ashley Scruton of Liverpool and Rachel Scruton of St. Louis, Mo.; and sister-in-law, Marie (George) Smith of Oswego.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sterling United Methodist Church, Route 104A in Sterling with burial at Sterling Cemetery.

  1. My deepest sympathy go out to Sally’s family.I have known Sally for years she was a great lady. I hadn’t seen her in a long time until i seen her at Simeon DeWitt when my mom [Lena Gray] and myself moved in there. She would be walking around in side a lot and we would talk. She was just a wonderful person and will be missed.
