Eugene A. Knopp

OSWEGO – Eugene A. Knopp, 91, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Butler, NY, he was the son of the late Eugene F. and Helen Knopp.

Eugene graduated from Oswego High School.  He was a proud US Marine Veteran and served during the Korean War. He worked and retired from the Oswego City School District after many years.  Before the school district, Eugene also worked at Tops and A&P.   He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Oswego Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the Oswego Hot Stove Association.

Eugene also loved sports and was a well-known Oswego Little League Umpire for over 25 years.  He was an avid UCONN Husky Women’s basketball fan and followed all Syracuse University sports.  He also loved hunting, gardening, bowling, visiting the casino, and scratch off tickets.

Eugene is survived by his loving children Geno Knopp (Deb Barbeau), Mary Ann Foley (Dan), and Sue Knopp (Bob Izyk) and grandchildren Geno Knopp (Ashley), Christie Kerling (Jeremy), Tony Knopp (Nicole), Ted Knopp (Samantha), Brandi Kerling (Joshua), Kimberly Davis (Reggie Batrack), Alison Colon (Angelo), Justin Foley (Kaitlyn), and Holden Foley.  He also leaves behind his siblings, John Knopp (Carol), Rita O’Reilly (Gary), Teresa Woolson (George), Bonnie Stevens (Scott), and Billy Knopp, brother-in-law John DiMartino, 19 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his siblings Norma DiMartino, Geraldine Albright, and James Knopp (Darlene).

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.  A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and Shrine, 105 West 7th Street.  Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
