Linda Marie (Galvin) Thompson

OSWEGO – Linda Marie (Galvin) Thompson, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Syracuse University Medical Center.

Linda was born on February 2, 1948, in Oswego, New York, sharing her birthday with her beloved mother—a family coincidence she always enjoyed, making them  “the two cutest groundhogs you ever saw.”

The oldest of nine children, Linda was one of the most spirited, fun-loving, feisty, and fiercely devoted daughters of the Galvin family. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and later graduated from Oswego High School in 1966. Her faith in God, Jesus, and the power of prayer remained with her throughout her life, though those who knew Linda also knew she was never afraid to speak her mind, bend the rules now and then, and stand up for what she believed.

She treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved and found great joy in gathering with family and close friends. Whether sharing stories over a glass of wine (or two), dancing to her favorite music, caring for her beloved dog and birds, or simply enjoying a good conversation, Linda had a gift for making people feel welcomed, loved, and appreciated. Her outspoken nature, quick wit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Linda worked as Head of Housekeeping at the Best Western in Oswego and also at St. Luke’s Nursing Home. While she took great pride in her professional accomplishments, the role she cherished most was being the heart of her home and family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Frederick John Thompson Sr. of Oswego, New York; her three beloved children, Frederick J. Thompson Jr. (Greg Kimmons) of Lakeland, Florida, William R. Thompson of Oswego, New York, and Michele L. Domingo (Larry Domingo) of Laguna Niguel, California. She was a proud grandmother to Kiera Lynn Thompson of Everett, Washington, and Alexis “Lexi” Thompson of Oswego, New York, and great-grandmother to Leilani Shanahan. She also leaves behind her faithful companion, her beloved dog, Max.

Linda is also survived by her siblings Donna Broadwell (Gary), Joanne Bieniek (John), James “Jim” Galvin of Cathedral City, California, Richard “Dickie” Galvin (Cindy), and Marcia Alvarado (Jose), as well as her brother-in-law Timothy Thompson (Tammy). She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Richard Galvin and Mary Edna (Davis) Galvin; her infant brother Richard Galvin; her brothers Robert “Mousey” Galvin and Richard Thomas “Tommy” Galvin.

Linda’s family will remember her for her strength, resilience, compassion, contagious laughter, and unwavering love. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched with her authenticity, humor, and generous spirit.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street, Oswego, New York. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and Shrine, 103 W. 7th St., Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Linda’s memory to her favorite charity, Paws Across Oswego County, 10 Klocks Corners Rd Bldg 2, Oswego.

Though deeply missed, Linda’s love, laughter, and indomitable spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
