PHOENIX, NY – Betty Schoolcraft Irwin King, beloved and loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday December 27, 2014.
She was a resident of Baldwinsville, NY, and Sun City Center, Fla.
She was born in the town of Sterling on May 20, 1940, to her late parents, Aletha L. (Conine) and Kenneth M. Schoolcraft.
Betty was a graduate of Hannibal High School and SUNY Oswego, earning her Bachelor and Master’s degrees.
She took several courses at Syracuse University in pursuit of her PhD.
Betty was a fifth grade elementary teacher at the Ramsdell School in the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District.
She retired in 1997 after 29 years of service.
More recently, Betty had been a teacher of students at OCC in the town of Onondaga, as well as teaching in Limanowa, Poland.
As a member of the First Congregational, United Church of Christ, Betty served as a Deaconess, a Cabinet member and other church related committees and organizations.
She was a member of Topics Club, Phoenix, NY; The Red Hats Society of Baldwinsville; a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association; Pi Gamma Mu which is a national honor science honor society.
Her other interests include her family, sewing, and traveling.
Betty visited 29 foreign countries; 44 of the 50 states in the U. S.
She enjoyed reading and music.
She has acted as a soloist at many churches and provided her singing talents at more than 50 weddings.
Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Danton L. King; her daughters and their husbands, Renee and Paul Fernandes of Liverpool, Rhonda and Menelaos Georgiadis of Fulton, Kathleen and James Snizek of Liverpool and Alison and Jack Meade of Camillus; six grandchildren, Gregory and Magda Georgiadis, Natalie and Brandon Fernandes, and William and Samuel Meade; four brothers and their wives, David
and Judy Schoolcraft of Syracuse, Fred and Vivian Schoolcraft and H. James and Patricia Schoolcraft all of Liverpool, Steven and Theresa Schoolcraft of Baldwinsville; two sisters, Carol and her husband, Robert Bernys of Sanford, Fla. and Victoria Crismond of Casselberry, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and then on Wednesday from 9 until 11 a.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.
Funeral services will follow the calling hours on Wednesday at noon in the First Congregationl U. C. C., 43 Bridge St., Phoenix.
The Rev. Karen Marshall officiating, as well as the Rev. Richard H. Scheffler, pastor emeritus, assisting with Betty’s services.
Burial will follow the funeral in Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd., Clay, NY.
