OSWEGO, NY – Esther L. Thompson, 88, of Oswego, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday March 1, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones after a brief struggle with ovarian cancer.

Born in Volney, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ward and Harriet (Wilber) Hall.
Esther worked for Nestles for 25 years and retired in 1990.
She attended The Hubbard School of District 5 in Volney.
She was an avid follower of golfer David Branshaw and the Boston Bruins.
She always enjoyed watching every game.
She also loved watching NASCAR and her favorite racers, Carl Edwards and Mark Martin.
She could be seen bowling in Fulton on Tuesdays with the Woman’s Bowling League and loved to go to the casino and country concerts with her sister, Nora.
She was part of the George Straight fan club and enjoyed spending time with her beloved Yorkies, Mimi and Angel.
Esther was most famous for her peanut butter balls and peanut butter pies, which she made and handed out around the holidays.
Esther is survived by her daughters, Donna Thompson of North Carolina and Judy (Chuck) Oleyourryk of Oswego; daughter-in-law, Traci Thompson of Florida; her sons, Ronald Thompson of Tennessee and Terry (Dorothy) Thompson of Oswego; her sisters, Ruth (Charles) Lum of Sterling and Wilma Shell of North Carolina; 12 beloved grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Thompson Sr.; her sons, Howard Thompson Jr., David Thompson, and James Thompson; her brothers, Ward Hall Jr., Charles Hall, William Hall and Robert Hall; and her sisters, Alice Woods and Nora Hunter.
At her request, there will be no calling hours.
Spring burial will take place at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Donations can be made in her name to the Oswego County Humane Society, 110 W. Second St., or Oswego County Hospice, PO Box 102, or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Nelson Funeral Home.
