OSWEGO, NY – James P. Bateman, 70, a resident of the Churchill Road in the town of Scriba, died Thursday June 28, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Bateman was born in Oswego on July 1, 1941, and was a life resident.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, and had also served in the US Naval Reserves.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed, for 32 years, as a custodian for St. Mary’s Church in Oswego.
Mr. Bateman was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid gun and coin collector and was also an enthusiast of vintage automobiles.
He was predeceased by his father, Leonard Bateman; his mother, Ellen (Beckwith) Bateman Hall; and a brother, Gary Bateman.
He is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Beverly) Bateman of Scriba, and Dan Hall of Scriba; three sisters, Linda Bateman of Scriba, Diane (Donny) Beshures of Oswego and Elana (Mark) Batchelor of Scriba; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Scriba.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.
