FULTON, NY – Michael Lysak, 91, died on Saturday February 25, 2017, at his home in Dunwoody, Ga., after a short illness.
He was born July 31, 1925, in Fulton, to Martha and Stephen Lysak.
He graduated from Fulton High School in 1943 and promptly enlisted in the US Navy.
He served in the South Pacific with Squadron VR-2, Naval Air Transport Service (NATS) as an Aviation Radioman/Gunner.
After completing his service in 1946, he graduated from Ithaca College in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.
He then graduated from Cornell University in 1952 with a Masters Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations.
He was recalled to military service in 1952 during the Korean War, after receiving a U.S. Army commission through ROTC.
He was a Public Information Officer (1st Lieutenant) at Fort Lee, Va., from 1952-1953.
He married Mary Ann Van Buren on July 19, 1958, in Fulton, and they were married for more than 58 years.
They have one daughter, who is awesome, Mary Ellen Lysak, currently an attorney in Atlanta.
Mr. Lysak began his work career in the Bell System starting with the Western Electric Company in Syracuse, NY, as a staff trainee.
He was promoted to section supervisor and transferred to Western Electric Headquarters in New York City.
He rose steadily through the ranks of Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies serving in New York City, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh and finally Atlanta where he retired after 37 years of service.
He had lived in the Dunwoody area for the past 36 years.
Mr. Lysak was very active with the Atlanta Chapter of the Salvation Army and was chairman of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta for more than five years.
He served on the board of directors of the Sandy Springs Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Lysak was an avid golfer.
He joined the Dunwoody Country Club in 1976 and served a three-year term on the board of directors.
He was a charter member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody and was the head usher of the 12:15 p.m. mass for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Lysak; and daughter, Mary Ellen Lysak.
A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on March 2 at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody and burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.
