OSWEGO, NY – Nancy (Gilmore) Samonek, 77, of Trinidad, Texas, passed away on Saturday April 14, 2012.
She was born July 19, 1935, in Oswego, to Rose and William Gilmore.
She graduated from Oswego High School in 1958.
In 1959, she began her career for United Airlines, working as an attendant until her retirement in December 2001.
While pursuing her career as a flight attendant, she completed her degree from San Mateo College, in California, graduating in 1973.
During her successful 42-year career, Nancy instituted programs for United Airlines flight attendants.
One of them she was truly proud of was the “Cause Foundation.” This program helped people who were out of work and had a serious setback. Nancy’s life was about loving people, supporting the needy and being one of God’s Earth angles.
She married Robert Samonek on Oct. 1, 1988, and became an instant stepmother and grandma to Robert’s family. Nancy was truly loved by them.
Nancy’s last wish was to be brought home to Oswego to her final resting place.
Throughout her years of service, Nancy stayed connected to her Oswego family and dear friends, Nancy Reitz and Julie Wells, by flying home for holidays, vacations and milestones of the best moment of our lives and the difficult ones.
She is loved dearly by her family and close friends and it is with a sad heart that we welcome her home.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Riverside Cemetery, with Dr. James Tschudy officiating.

Nancy Gilmore was the greatest dancer I ever saw. You should have only seen her in her prime. I would have paid to watch her dance.
Nancy and I flew together from SF to Honolulu. Turns out that we lived on the same street caddy corner from one another. She was a dear and full of laughter. I recall the times she played Bingo and talked about Bob.
I was at their wedding and was so happy she had found someone wonderful to share her life with.
I was always moved and touched by how loving her new family was and how they accepted her unconditionally.
I am sorry to have learned the new of her passing so late. My thoughts are with you her family. Loss is never an easy thing.
