OSWEGO, NY – Thomas W. (Mac) McAnaney, 71, of Oswego, passed away at his home on Friday November 20, 2015.

The funeral service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 E. Sixth St., Oswego, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Rev. Bruce Schrader will be officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St., on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Tom was born in Oswego, November 26, 1943.

He graduated from Oswego High School and continued on to SUNY Oswego, receiving both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in American History.

Tom worked 44 years, until his death, as a light motor equipment operator for the Oswego City School District.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leona (Scharf) McAnaney; and his aunt, Dorothea (Scharf) Price.

Tom is survived by a cousin, Marilyn Price (James) Kovarik; and several other cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the OHS Marching Buccaneers Scholarship Fund in Tom’s name.

  2. I knew Tom since high school. I don’t ever remember a single person say a bad word about him. Tom you will be missed. You have always been a good friend.

  5. I met Tom in Kindergarden and went all through school with him. He was a gentle soul and a good friend. RIP Tom !

  6. I saw Tom everywhere, but mostly he was a ‘regular’ about the same time I was at the PO in Oswego. He would have a pleasant comment no matter what the weather, what the situation. The last time I saw him was at Siver’s Auction Service a little over a month ago, we were regulars! We were both standing in line for the great Pat or Ted pie, and I laughed and said, “my husband only takes me to the finest restaurants.” He laughed and said, ” I come here for the people at this restaurant.”

    For all of us who knew him over the last many years (for me, I first met him as a ‘temp’ at the Ed Center probably close to 20 years ago), I think we were better in those moments we were in his company. There are just a few people like that. Those who always make you feel better than you did before he crossed your path.

    There is a special counter in Heaven for Tom…RIP
    Today I have a sad smile for the first time I have thought of him.

  7. Tom first entered my life in kindergarten at KPS, and we graduated together from OHS. After living away from Oswego for many years, I was blessed to meet him again upon my return to the area, especially enjoying many group dinners at the Hibernian Club. He always had an interesting anecdote to share, and was a congenial, kind-hearted, very knowledgeable person. What a joy to meet him out and about! I will miss those unexpected encounters very much. May Tom’s soul rest in peace for the wonderful way he enriched so many lives that he unknowingly touched.

  8. Tom and I did our student teaching together. He made it fun. I will always remember him fondly. So sorry.
