William ‘Bill’ Rurey, 84, of Port Richey, Fla., and formerly of Fulton, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, with his children at his side.
He was born in Fulton and was a graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School, class of 1951.
Bill was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from the Fulton Fire Department in 1981 at the rank of captain.
He then relocated to Sacramento, California, in 1981 and Port Richey, Florida, in 1996.
Bill had many interests and enjoyed reading, camping, watching the Tampa Bay Rays and spending time with friends and family.
He traveled extensively, including Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean.
He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, the Elks and served as a volunteer at the Medical Center of Trinity Hospital at the time of his death.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Gertrude Rurey; and
his wife of 57 years, Calista.
He is survived by son, Roger (Joan) Rurey of Vestal, NY; daughter, Candy (Ralph) Buckley of Haverhill, Mass.; grandchildren, Erin (Tom) Moore, Elizabeth (Brian) Deno, Jeff Rurey and his fiancé, Elisabeth Treadwell; great-granddaughters, Amelia Moore and Mikayla Deno;
great-grandsons, Austin Moore and Logan Deno; significant other,
Rosetta Otten; sister-in-law, Darlene (Robert) Flint of Central Square, NY; brother-in-law, Douglas (Carol) Runions of Clifford, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bill will be interred at the National Cemetery in Bath, NY, at the convenience of the family.

Deepest regrets and sympathy to Bill’s family. Knew him well from his days on the FFD. Last saw Bill several years ago at an Oswego County picnic at Zephyrhills. He hadn’t changed, just friendly as ever. Rest In Peace.
Bill was a neighbor and a great friend. He could be counted on to “know” things we needed to learn when my parents moved across the street. He always had the right tool or the information to help us get through the projects we undertook in our new home. Bill will be sorely missed by all of his neighbors. His wife Calista was a nice person too. His Companion Rosetta made his life a time of pure happiness as he was lonely after Calista passed. She was his best firend and companion and we all enjoyed each others company. He shared his paper with us every morning and always reported the weather from New York via his son Roger. He was a wonderful friend. Florida wont be the same without his smiling face across the street. RIP my good friend.
