OSWEGO, NY – Joseph Murabito Jr., 94, of Dublin Street, Oswego, died Monday August 24, 2015, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Murabito was born August 28, 1920, in Oswego, the son of the late Joseph and Rosaria (Rapisardi) Murabito.

He was a member of the Carpenter’s local #747, serving as the treasurer for 27 years, and working with Stone & Webster at the local power plants.

Mr. Murabito was communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, where he was a past trustee and treasurer.

Mr. Murabito had been as usher at St. Joseph’s Church since 1956.

He was a past committee chairman of the Third Ward Democratic party.

He served in the United States Army 155th infantry in the South Pacific during World War II.

Mr Murabito was a member of the VFW Quattrini Dehm Post and the Crisafulli Post where he was past commander.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Mr. Murabito was a 4th Degree Knight and a member of the color corps, with the Knights of Columbus #227 and the Elks.

He was a Century Club member of Oswego Hospital; a volunteer at the hospital since Dec. 12, 1994; a member of the RSVP.

Mr. Murabito enjoyed riding his Harley since 1974.

He was a former member of the Dante Alieghieri.

He was the recipient of the Immaculata Ward from the Bishop; and he received the volunteer of the year award from the city of Oswego, St. Joseph’s Church and RSVP.

Mr. Murabito was predeceased by his wives, Lena Murabito, in 1974, and Elizabeth Brown Murabito, in 1996.

He is survived by his daughter, Judi (Mike) Kenific of Oswego; sons John and David Murabito of Oswego; brother Angelo Murabito of Oswego; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sibling Santo, Fred, Sam, Sally, Clara and Grace.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday 10 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

  2. ANGELO & FAMILY…….I AM VERY SORRY I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND VISITING HOURS OR FUNERAL……I AM ON OXYGEN & THE HUMIDITY IS HIGH, SO MY BREATHING IS BAD. I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF HIS DEATH….HAD PLANNED TO CALL HIM & WISH HIM A ? HAPPY ? BIRTHDAY ?.

  3. To my old neighbors, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. He was a good man, always willing to talk to the kids in the neighborhood. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
