Merrill T. Young, 94

OSWEGO, NY – Merrill T. Young, 94, passed Sunday August 16, 2015, from this life peacefully, with his family by his side, at St. Luke Health Services, after a brief illness.

He was the son of Ethel (Mayne) and Tracy Young.

He graduated from Oswego High School before enlisting in the Army-Air Force to serve in World War II.

He retired as maintenance supervisor at the Oswego Steam Station in 1981 with 40+ years of service.

He relished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he was often behind the lens of a camera photographing family events.

He was a communicant of Faith United Church.

Merrill is survived by daughters, Patricia (Jim) O’Reilly, Mexico, Barbara (Bob) Sugar, Oswego and Marjorie (Lyle) Whitney, Scriba; sons, Francis Young, Oswego and William (Brenda) Young, Williamstown, his companion of 15 years, Mary F. Stone; brother, Charles Young; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Merrill was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Mary Agnes (McManus) Young; and siblings Frances Wilson and Harold Young.

Funeral services will be Thursday at noon at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego.

Calling hours will be Thursday 10 a.m. – noon prior to the services at the funeral home 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.
