Richard J. Hibbert, 69

OSWEGO, NY – Richard J. Hibbert, 69, of Oswego died Monday June 18, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness.

Mr. Hibbert was born in Oswego the son of the late Leo and Maryann (Briggs) Hibbert.

He retired in 2002 from SUNY Oswego as a supervisor in the Janitorial Department.

He worked as a longshoreman for 30 years at the Port of Oswego Authority.

Mr. Hibbert served in the US Air Force in the Philippines and at Otis Air Force Base Massachusetts, where he was assigned special security for former President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.

He was a proud member of the music minister for the Lord’s Delight Prayer Community.

Mr. Hibbert was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church for 23 years.

Mr. Hibbert was predeceased by his brother, Leo Hibbert.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Hibbert of Oswego; his children, Pamela (Lawrence) North of Oswego, Anna (Jonathan) Waite of Parish, Renee (Michael) Mournighan of Oswego, Veronica Hibbert of Oswego and Maribeth Hibbert-Nelson of Oswego; siblings, Ann (Frank) Brand of Florida, Patricia (Robert) Gehan of Scriba, William (Leona) Hibbert of Oswego, Cynthia (Maurice) Leavens of Oswego, Raymond (Judith) Hibbert of Scriba, Randy (Cindy) Hibbert of Central Square and Bernadette Grinnell of Palermo; grandchildren, Tanya, Matthew, Larry, Michael, Anastasia, Elizabeth, J.P., Tommy, Katheryne, James and Lilly; great-grandson, Landon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday 4 – 7 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth. St., Oswego. missing or outdated ad config

  2. Sorry for your loss Mr. Hibbert was my supervisor for a short time before he retired but was a nice guy.

  3. Sorry to hear of the Passing of Mr Hibbert. Larry and Pam are our wonderful neighbors. Our prayers are with you all.

  4. Sorry to the whole family for the loss of uncle dick. Next to my father (uncle micky) and god, uncle dick was the biggest male influence in my life. He took us in years ago and helped give us the foundation that has made us who we are today. He will forever be missed, especially by me. kpjr
