OSWEGO, NY – Thomas “Pat” Battista, 92, of Oswego, died Friday June 19, 2015, in St. Luke Health Services with his wife by his side.
Mr. Battista was born in Oswego, the son of the late John and Anna (DeSantis) Battista.
He retired from Nestles, Fulton, in 1985 as a millwright.
He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945, in the First Infantry Division (Big Red 1).
He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day; he made all three amphibious landings in North Africa, Europe and Sicily.
He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and several other medals.
He was honorably discharged, after being wounded in action.
Mr. Battista was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Oswego, the Holy Name Society, the Dante Aleghieri, Oswego, the VFW Post #5885, Oswego, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose (Barillo) Battista of Oswego; and their children, Patricia (Richard) Cummings of Oswego, Rosemary (Arnold Whiting) Ingersoll of Oswego, James (Elena) Battista of Oswego, John (Mary Jean) Battista of Oswego and Mary Beth Battista of Oswego.
In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Frances Hibbert of Oswego, Samuel (Anna) Battista of Oswego and Mary Ann (William) Pierce of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Mr. Battista was also predeceased by siblings, Carmella “Ella” Battista, Michael Battista, Rosie Peterson, Theresa Hibbert and Margaret “Jenny” Battista.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Gregory Kreinheder.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St. Oswego.

We are so sorry to hear about Pat, he was such a gentle and nice person and will be missed by all. He had an interesting life and a loving family with you and the kids and all the grandchildren. All of you have wonderful memories of him that will not be forgotten.
