Ruth K. Menard, 95, of Fulton, died Monday at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego.
A native of Oswego, she had resided in Fulton for over fifty years. Mrs. Menard retired in 1977 from Nestle Foods where she had worked as a registered nurse for 22 years. She had previously worked as night nursing supervisor at A.L. Lee Memorial hospital from 1953-55. Mrs. Menard was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Fulton. She was a member of the A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital Retired Nurses Association and Nestle Supervisory Group. Mrs. Menard was predeceased by her husband, Francis N. Menard in 1995 and by a son, Michael E. Menard in 1999.
Surviving are: a brother, George Kline of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Lisa and Ryan Menard; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held in the spring at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, 13220.

Hello and deepest thoughts are for Aunt Ruth. She was an awesome person with tons of spunk. I know George’s family doesn’t know me, but I am her niece. My parents were Joe and Mary Menard. George, you and I met a few times in Ruth’s kitchen. Please take care and thank you for all the support you gave her. Please call if there is something I can do for you and your family. God Bless.

Ruth, Fran and Mike are together again. I know she’s at peace and happy now that they are reunited. Nothing pained her more than losing Mike when she did leaving her virtually alone except for her wonderful brother [her words] and a few very loyal friends. We send our prayers.

Ruth and Fran were my neighbors across the street for years. I particularly got to know Ruth better since Fran’s passing. I enjoyed her company, her sense of humor and her zest for life. I learned alot from her over the years. We watched over each other as neigbors. I remember one night in particular when she was out too late for my liking. She always left her porch light on when she left but forgot this one night. She went out with a friend and she didn’t come back at her usual time. I ended up waiting up for her. When she finally returned I went across the street and scolded her for being out so late and I called her a crazy kid. We both got a good laugh over that. I missed her immensely when she left her home on Third Street. I still refer to the house as “Ruth’s house”. Thank you Ruth for all the wonderful memories, you will always live strong in my heart. I will never forget you……you were an incredible lady.

My name is Arielle and I’m a SUNY Oswego student. As coordinator of the Adopt-a-Grandparent program, I visited St. Luke’s weekly and spent a lot of time with Ruth. She was, and always will be one of my favorite residents. She was so feisty and full of life that you couldn’t help but smile and laugh while in her presence. She was an amazing lady and made my experience at the nursing home unforgettable. My thoughts go out to all of those who loved her and who were touched by her life as I was.

wow…. what can I say about Ruth?
She was simply the nicest lady ever, I lived a crossed from her up until 8 years ago. When I was younger I used to go over to her house to sit and play rummy, watch tv, and to eat string cheese and oyster crackers. I always loved in the winter when I would shovel her sidewalk and I would be invited in for some hot cocoa. I am sad to see you go, but I know that you will be happy up there with Fran and Michael.
