William Aloysius Toolan, 85

OSWEGO, NY – William Aloysius Toolan, 85, of Oswego, died Oct. 16, 2009, at Oswego Hospital.

He was a former resident of West Van Buren Street.

Mr. Toolan was born Nov. 2, 1923, in the Bronx, NY.

He was the son of late Helen (Ward) Toolan and William Toolan Sr.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Price) Toolan; a daughter, Sandra Jean; three brothers, Bernard (Sonny), James, and Robert; and two sisters, Helen of Massachusetts and Marge of the Bronx.

As a young child, he served as an altar boy in the Bronx.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received three medals: Aleutian Island Eastern Mandates, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

After his discharge, he was employed by Flexo Wire in Oswego.

He was a member of the Oswego Moose club.

He is survived by his four daughters, Mrs. Jolane (Steven) Erickson of Cumming, Ga., Mrs. Debra (Charles) Durval of Oswego, Mrs. Barbara (Joseph) Countryman of Oswego and Mrs. Lorraine (Terry) McManus of Oswego; two sons, William and Steven Toolan, both of Oswego; 11 grandchildren, Richard, Chris, Brian, Melissa, Michelle, Heather, Jennifer, Julie, Christine, Ciera, and Steven; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

Burial will take place at St Peter’s Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions can be made to the Salvation Army.
