William (Bill) Nipper, Sr., 77

William (Bill) Nipper, Sr., 77, of Merritt Road, Fulton passed away suddenly on October 24, 2009.

He was a life resident of the Fulton-Granby area. Bill retired in 1979 after 31 years of employment with Acme Markets and was a member of the Meat Cutters Local #1 in Utica.

Bill was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors, He spent many hours gardening and farming. Bill was a loving family man who enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s ball games and many wresting matches. He was inducted into the Hannibal Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997 and given the Hannibal Wresting Fan of the Year award in 1983 and 2009. He was also a member of the Central New York Two Cylinder and Mid Lakes Power of the Past Clubs. He attended many tractor pulls.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Mary (Gilbert) Nipper; three sons, Robert (Rhonda) Nipper of Fulton, David (Teresa) Nipper of Phoenix and Donald (Tammie) Nipper of Palermo; a sister, Frances (Richard) Morton of Scriba; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Gilbert of Fulton and Louis Gilbert of Hannibal; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal with burial at Merritt Cemetery, Granby. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that contributions be made to the “Hannibal Wrestling Club”, c/o Mike Kitts, 162 Rowlee Road, Fulton, 13069.
