Dear Honorable Legislators,
As we continue responding to the significant snowfall across Oswego County, we want to update you on our ongoing efforts and provide key information to share with residents.
Current Actions:
- Severe Snowfall Impact: Since Friday, February 14, Oswego County has experienced heavy lake-effect snow, ice, and freezing rain. Snowfall intensified from Sunday night through Wednesday morning, bringing accumulations nearing 100 inches in some areas over the past 10 days. Regions south of Route 104, which do not typically experience such prolonged or intense snowfall, have been significantly impacted.
- Snow Removal Operations: A large-scale, coordinated snow removal effort is underway and will continue expanding in the coming days. As of this report, 19 cities, towns, and villages have requested support for snow removal and maintenance of critical transportation infrastructure.
- Emergency Operations: The Oswego County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was partially activated on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, and will remain partially activated on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to support response efforts.
- County & State Coordination: We are actively collaborating with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) to clear roads, prioritizing main routes and emergency access points.
- Public Resources: A list of private snow removal vendors is attached for residents seeking assistance in clearing their properties.
Important Information for Residents:
- No State Assistance for Private Snow Removal: To our knowledge, no state resources are available to assist in clearing private residences or businesses. Residents are encouraged to contact vendors from the attached list. The county does not endorse any specific vendor but is providing the list as a resource for residents to evaluate.
- Financial Assistance: The county does not have financial resources or staff available for snow removal. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to reach out to local community organizations or non-profits that may offer support. We also urge neighbors to check on each other, especially the elderly, and provide help where possible.
Please share this information with your constituents. If you receive specific concerns that require attention, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support during this response.
