Lake Ontario report
There are not many reports from the lake as the season is winding down. Anglers may find a few salmon off the lake tributaries along with brown trout and steelhead. A couple of anglers last weekend indicated it was a tough bite.

Oswego River report:
The river flow has been between 500 and 800 cfs over the last couple of days. This morning it is running at 784 cfs. The upcoming holiday weekend is expected to be very busy on the river. Anglers are finding salmon at the dam and from the high wall and the powerhouse. Driftboats are also having success along the river. A few brown trout and steelhead are also being taken. Although the water flow remains low, anglers are making the most of the conditions.

Notice: There are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. For more information, visit our website at www.visitoswegocounty.com and click on the Fishing Report along the top bar on the home page. The Oswego Fire Department offers loaner life jackets at no charge through its “Loaner for Life” program. For more information contact the fire station, 35 E. Cayuga St., at 315-343-2161.

Salmon River report:
Notice: Due to low water conditions and to ensure an adequate Pacific salmon egg take at the Salmon River Hatchery during the fall spawning season, the Lower Fly Fishing Zone will be closed from September 15th until further notice.

According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
Prior to the fast-moving storm that came through around 1:30 PM yesterday, the fishing was very good throughout the run. Upper mid and lower sections all witnessed good fish movement (mostly kings) and lots of hook-ups. After the storm blew by, giving us hard rain, some hail and persistent strong winds, the doors got blown off. Up and down the run I received reports of outstanding fish movement and as one river patrol reported in their afternoon report, “the best fish movement I have seen all season.” In addition, good numbers of steelhead, browns, and still some cohos have been reported. Clearly one of the better pushes of fish we have seen this year. The current water flow is 185 cfs and 213 cfs at Pineville.

According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop & Motel:
Both Monday and Wednesday we had scattered rain which was good for fish movement. The anglers we spoke with who fished the DSR reported having a good day while getting into mostly kings along with some cohos. Other anglers reported getting into kings in some of the deeper holes in the mid to upper end of the river. Suggested baits are woolly buggers in black, brown and olive, black head stone flies, egg sucking leeches and estaz eggs.

Oneida Lake report:
Yesterday the strong winds were an issue on the lake. Earlier in the week anglers were finding walleye and perch in about 10 feet of water along the weed beds. Walleye are also active in 30-40 feet of water. Blade baits, Rapalas and jigs have been working. With the cooler temperatures, the shore bite should be picking up.

Sandy Pond report:
There is little to report from the pond this time of year. Look for bass along the edges of the weed beds using spinner baits and rubber worms.
