Oswego Health Foundation Golf Tournament Raises More Than $147,000 to Expand Access to Advanced Breast Cancer Screening

OSWEGO – The 39th Annual Oswego Health Foundation Golf Tournament, held June 1 at the Oswego Country Club, raised more than $147,000 to support local patient care and expand access to advanced breast cancer screening services for patients across Central New York.

Presented by The Hayner Hoyt Corporation, the tournament brought together dozens of teams, sponsors, volunteers, and community supporters united in their commitment to strengthening healthcare throughout the region. Funds raised from this year’s event will support the acquisition of a new 3D mammography unit for Oswego Health’s Central Square Medical Center.

Located in southern Oswego County, the Central Square Medical Center serves as an important healthcare access point for patients from across Central New York, including residents of northern Onondaga County and neighboring communities. The addition of 3D mammography technology will expand access to advanced breast cancer screening closer to where many patients live and work.

Currently, patients receiving mammography services at the Central Square Medical Center have access to 2D imaging technology. While effective, 2D mammography does not provide the same level of detail and accuracy as 3D imaging. The addition of a 3D mammography unit will enhance the detection of breast abnormalities, reduce false positives, decrease the need for additional screenings and callbacks, and provide greater confidence in diagnostic results.

“Every woman deserves access to the highest quality breast cancer screening, regardless of where she lives or seeks care,” said Michele Hourigan, Director of Business and Community Development for the Oswego Health Foundation. “Our Central Square Medical Center serves patients from throughout Central New York, and this investment will help ensure those patients have access to advanced imaging technology closer to home. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and community partners whose generosity is making this important enhancement possible.”

As a nonprofit community healthcare system, Oswego Health relies on philanthropic support to fund investments in technology, programs, and services that directly benefit local patients. Every dollar raised through the tournament will be reinvested into healthcare services that strengthen access to care throughout Central New York.

The tournament also recognized several outstanding participants for their performance on the course.

Tournament winners included:

  • First Place: Ontario Lakeside Associates (59)
    • Second Place: Spectrum Contracting (61)
    • Third Place: Kopp Billing (61)

The second-place tie was broken by matching cards on the fourth handicap hole.

The Debbie Hicks Memorial Fun Prize, awarded by blind draw to a team in the non-competitive division, was presented to Berkeley Research Group in honor of longtime golf tournament organizer Debbie Hicks.

Individual contest winners included:

  • Straightest Drive (#1): Sean McKenna
    • Longest Drive (#14): Mike McIntosh and Michelle Pyan
    • Closest to the Pin (#2): Todd Stevener
    • Closest to the Pin (#12): Dr. Carlos Dator
    • Putting Contest Winner: Steve Thomas
    • Chipping Contest Winner: Ed Fayette

“The success of this tournament demonstrates the tremendous support that exists for local healthcare,” said Hourigan. “Together, our community continues to make meaningful investments that improve care, enhance services, and ensure patients have access to the resources they need close to home.”

Planning is already underway for the 40th Annual Oswego Health Foundation Golf Tournament, scheduled for June 7, 2027. Oswego Health extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors, participants, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to this year’s remarkable achievement.
