OSWEGO – The Oswego Health Foundation is proud to announce it has received a $225,000 grant from Saint Agatha Foundation to support the purchase of a state-of-the-art 3D mammography unit for Central Square Medical Center. The investment represents a significant advancement in breast health services for residents throughout Central New York and will help ensure equitable access to the highest standard of breast imaging care.
Located conveniently along the Interstate 81 corridor, Oswego Health’s Central Square Medical Center serves as an important healthcare destination for residents across Central New York. The addition of a 3D mammography system will allow patients to receive the same high-quality breast imaging services available throughout the Oswego Health system, regardless of where they choose to receive care.
Three-dimensional mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, enhances the ability to detect breast cancer at earlier stages, particularly in women with dense breast tissue, while reducing unnecessary callbacks and follow-up testing. The technology provides clearer, more detailed images that support earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
“We are incredibly grateful to Saint Agatha Foundation for this transformational investment in women’s health,” said Margaret Barclay, Executive Director of the Oswego Health Foundation. “This investment will help expand access to advanced breast imaging and early detection services for women in our community, creating a lasting impact on countless patients and families. We are honored to be a recipient of the Foundation’s generosity and deeply appreciate your commitment to improving breast health care for others.”
“We strongly believe that everyone should have access to the highest level and quality of care,” said Kathy Mezzalingua of Saint Agatha Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Oswego Health in helping improve access to advanced breast imaging services and supporting better outcomes for women throughout the community.”
The funding will support a long-awaited upgrade for Central Square Medical Center, where patients currently receive care using a 2D mammography unit. By adding 3D imaging technology, Oswego Health will continue its efforts to provide leading-edge healthcare close to home while advancing health equity across the communities it serves.
