OSWEGO, NY – In response to photos and public comments on social media, the Port of Oswego Authority (POA), explained the recent activity is to partially cover the framework of the new dome four storage facility that has been dormant for the past two years.
“Construction of this storage building was delayed two years ago because of litigation which resulted in an additional environmental review which has now been resolved,” said William Scriber, POA executive director and CEO. “The partial covering was the first step in moving forward with completing this project.
“The strips of fabric on the structure were installed by the contractor to determine if they were still usable after having been in storage for two years and they are usable. The completion of this additional storage building means the Port will be able to accommodate and attract new business. It also means more well-paying jobs and more positive economic impact for Oswego and our region. In fact, over the past two years, the Port has had to pass on bidding on some large projects because this additional storage space wasn’t available.”
Scriber also explained that this storage building is part of a comprehensive plan that aligns with the Port’s mission to develop and increase the efficiency of its facilities to further commerce and industry. The Port’s record shipping during the past two years demonstrates the need for this additional storage space as part of meeting the demand of its clients and its prominent position as the only port on Lake Ontario.
