Buc Girls End Track Regular Season With Win

The Oswego girl’s track team, closed out a very successful dual meet season Thursday afternoon, by beating the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Nottingham 80-52. With the win, the Lady Bucs finish with a fine CNYCL American Conference record of 4-2.

“Even though the weather was bad”, said veteran Oswego coach Jim McCaul, “The spirit, enthusiasm, and competitive efforts turned in by the team, was anything but. The strong work ethic of this fine group of young ladies, has led to much improvement this season, and I am anticipating continued improvement in the upcoming championship season.”

The Lady Bucs earned 15 first place finishes in the contest. Senior sprint standout Monique Reeser, won the 100 meter dash for Oswego (13.0) and anchored the winning 1600 meter relay of Ashley Fidler, Katie DiVita, and Liz Donovan (4:38.2). She also placed second in the 200 meter dash, with a fine time of 28.5, under very cold and rainy conditions, and anchored the Lady Bucs second place 400 meter relay of DiVita, Eliza Parker, and Donovan.

A much improved Alexis Files, placed first the 400 meter hurdles, in an outstanding time of 1:11.3, won the 400 meter dash in 68.7, and jumped a personal best in the high jump, to finish third. She also ran a leg on Oswego’s second place 1600 meter relay of Rachel Healy, Ashley Welsch, and Kaitlyn Holloway, which finished in a tie with the Lady Bucs 1600 meter relay of Eliza Parker, Lexi Gillard, Sarah Miller, and Sarah Hill. Other double winning performances for Oswego included Vanessa Sheffield in the long jump (16’2″) and triple jump (34′ 2″) and senior Sara Sheffield in the shot put (24′ 9″) and discus (82′ 10″), both personal best efforts.

Rachel Healy ran a personal best to win the 1500 meter run, and led off the Lady Bucs winning 3200 meter relay of DiVita, Donovan, and Miller (11:37.9), with sophomore hurdle standout Eliza Parker, winning the 100 meter hurdles (17.3), sister Mara Parker placing first in the 800 meter run (2:50), and freshmen Michelle Champagne, winning the 3000 meter run.

Other seconds for the much improved Oswego team, were turned in by Jenna Delaney in the 400 meter hurdles, Eliza Parker in the 100 meter dash (13.2), Bridgette Auyer in the 1500 meter run, Ashley Fidler in the 400 meter dash, Sara Rogers in the discus, Jessica Sheffield in the shot put, and multi event standout Vanessa Sheffield in the high jump, with a best of 4’8″.

Junior Ashley Welsch ran a personal best of 1:11.0 in the 400 meter dash, to finish third for the Lady Bucs. Other third place finishes included Kaitlin Bracy in the 1500 meter run, Auyer in the 800 meter run, Gillard in the 200 meter dash, Rogers in the shot put, Rachael Demling in the long jump, and Oswego’s 400 meter relay of Paula HaGyeong, Kasama Laosen, Disha Rahay, and Alyssa Damm .

Freshmen Kaitlyn Holloway, turned in a best of 1:11.l in the 400 meter dash for Oswego. Other bests were earned by Candace Supernavage in the 400 meter dash, Demling in the 800 meter run, and Rahay and Jessica Bezio in the discus.

“I have to give a lot of credit for our success this season, to Coach Ron Ahart and Coach Ron Nelson, who do an outstanding job working with our student athletes”, said McCaul.

Oswego will return to action next Thursday, traveling to the Rome Free Academy Stadium, for the Section III Class A Championships, with the first event scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
