Oswego Girls Track Team Sees Success At Section III Meet

The Oswego girl’s track team, wrapped up a very successful season Thursday, with an outstanding performance at the Section III State Meet Qualifier, held on the Richard Nastasi Track, at Cicero North Syracuse High School.

“Our girls did a super job”, said Coach Jim McCaul, “Despite very warm and muggy conditions, they responded very well to the strong competition, with some really fine performances.”

Sophomore standout Vanessa Sheffield, placed third in the 100 meter hurdles for the Lady Bucs, in a time of 15.83. Her fast time of 15.67 in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries, was a personal best. She also placed third in the triple jump, with a strong leap of 36′ 1 1/2″.

Sophomore Eliza Parker, ran a best in the 100 meter hurdles (16.15), to finish fourth.

In a very competitive race, Oswego’s talented 4 x 100 meter relay of Sheffield, Parker, sophomore Alexis Files, and senior

Monique Reeser, ran a school record breaking time of 51.4 in the preliminaries, to advance to the finals, where they broke their school record again, with an outstanding time of 51.34, to place fifth overall.

“These young ladies have really come a long way this season”, said McCaul, “They have worked very hard on their relay exchanges and their races have reflected this.”

Senior sprint standout Monique Reeser, closing out an outstanding career for the Lady Bucs in cross country and track and field, ran a fast time of 13.3 in the 100 meter dash preliminaries, to advance to the finals. Her fine personal best time of 13.17 in the finals, earned her seventh place among the section’s elite.

“Monique is one of the finest young ladies I have had the pleasure to work with”, said McCaul, “Her outstanding work

ethic, positive attitude, and competitive spirit, whether it be in practice or in a meet, has helped those around her get better and has led to much individual success. She is always willing to put the goals of the team ahead of her personal goals and do that little extra, to make the team more successful. Her drive, dedication, and committment, has played a big part in our team’s success and has made her invaluable to our program.”

“This has been a very successful and rewarding season”, said McCaul, “A strong team work ethic, led to much improvement this season, and the team got stronger and stronger as the season progressed. I have to give a lot of credit to our seniors, who provided leadership and direction to the team and will be greatly missed. With our returning athletes gaining the necessary experience, to build the foundation for continued success, the future looks very bright for the Oswego girl’s track program.”
