FULTON – Fulton’s Junior Pee-Wee Pop Warner football team captured the CNY South title with a 28-7 victory over FM at Chittenango High School on October 29.

The championship game was a rematch from the regular season where the Raiders outlasted the Hornets 24-20 at Recreation Park. Fulton finished the season with an 8-0 record en route to the organizations 9th CNY Championship.

The Raiders, coached by Craig Trude were dominant on defense, which was a constant this season.

Their first couple of offensive drives fell short, however their defense never let the Hornets out past their own 30 yard line.

Fulton finally punched it in on their 3rd possession and after kicking the extra point through the uprights, the Raiders had the early 8-0 lead.

With 3:00 left in the first half, Fulton went to the hurry up, no huddle offense which lead to a score on the very first play. The extra point was blocked bringing the score to 14-0.

That would be the score going into halftime.

The second half was started much the same for the invaders from Fayetteville Manlius.

The third play from scrimmage, the runner coughed up the ball on a fumble that was covered by the tenacious Raider defense.

This once again left the Raiders in good field position inside FM territory.

Fulton would score on its first play off tackle, after a successful extra point kick , the score was 22 -0.

Fulton continued to smother FM’s offense, ending the 3rd quarter with that same 22-0 score.

With the game in hand the Raiders ran between the tackles to run clock, breaking one more run for their final score with just more than 7:00 to play in the 4th.

The failed point after brought the score to 28-0. On the Hornets last possession, they finally scored on a hail Mary pass bringing the final score to 28-7.

Coach Trude wanted to thank his coaching staff, assisstants: Curtis Mills Dave Clohecy and John Johnson for the sacrifice of time and energies to make this undefeated season a success.

He also wishes to thank the kids for their hard work and dedication as well as the parents who were so instrumental in this season’s success.

Trude said, “ In the beginning of the season we set goals for our team. To win our league, to win the CNY South title and to qualify for the state or regional post season tournaments.”

” I am so proud of these kids for how hard they have worked and for buying into our team concept to reach those goals,” he added.

The Fulton Junior Pee Wees continue its run with a East Region first round game at Auburn High School , Holland Stadium at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Raiders will face the Ogden Bears, the Greater Rochester area Champions.
