Oswego Golfers Win Pre-Season Invitational

OSWEGO, NY – The 2010 Oswego boys’ golf season has started with a bang.

After winning their first two matches of the season late last week, the Oswego golf team traveled to Drumlins Country Club to compete in the Henninger Invitational on Monday – and won the event.

Oswego’s total stroke count of 200 bested 10 other teams including defending champions Fayetteville-Manlius, defending sectional champions West Genesee, and strong league contenders Baldwinsville, CNS, Auburn, and Liverpool.

Leading the Bucs on this day was senior Austin Tracz whose nine-hole score of 38 was low on the team and tied for third low in the field of 66 golfers.

“Austin is hitting more fairways this year – and consequently more greens,” said coach Rose about his team medalist. “He worked hard on his game this off-season, played some tournament golf, and he is reaping the benefits of that work now.”

Also playing well for the Bucs was Sam Lalonde, whose round of 39 included one eagle and one birdie.

Sam’s eagle came on the tricky par-4 third hole at Drumlins where he wedged the ball in from 80 yards out in the fairway.

Sam is in his sophomore season and looking for a little more consistency in his game this season. A 39 at Drumlins is a nice start.

Three rounds of 41 were also posted on this day by fellow players Matt Lloyd, Brandon Tracz, and first year player Luke Boshart. Alec Kunzwiler shot 42.

“With a start like this,” said Coach Rose, “we have to be careful not to get overly confident. It’s a good start, and I’m happy for the players, happy to see their hard work during the off-season starting to pay off. But there is always work to do in this game. Always work to be done. It is a long season with a lot of competitive golf. I look forward to helping these kids improve and progress.”

The team gets another chance to show their coach some progress when they travel to The Links at Sunset Ridge on Tuesday to do battle in a tri-match with Corcoran and Auburn. missing or outdated ad config
