The following notice has been posted for Lake Ontario waters:Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.
Oswego River/Lake Ontario report:Oswego River report:According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:The only real change for the river fishing has been the water level. It has been up and down all week ranging from 9,000cfs to 3,500cfs and the changes have been happening quickly. We started out this morning at 8,000cfs and were down to 5,780cfs by noon. The most active area of the river remains from the Utica St. bridge to the harbor. Brown trout, steelhead, rainbows and Atlantic salmon are taking nightcrawlers, leeches, Flat Rap stickbaits, Smithwicks, Rapalas and Challenger stickbaits. Look for sheephead taking crayfish. Walleye are active near the railroad bridge. Bluegills, bullhead and crappies are active in Ox Creek and Three-Mile Creek is producing northern pike and blue gills.
Lake Ontario report:The winds have been quieter this week and the fishing has been good. Brown trout have been active in more shallow depths along the shoreline. Deeper water, 100-120 feet, is producing lake trout and some salmon are being reported. Suggested baits are Smithwick Rogues, Rapalas, Thundersticks, and spoons such as Stingers and Dreamweavers.
Mexico Bay report:According to Capt. Gerry Bresadola of B & B Sportfishing Charters:Once the weekend winds subsided fishing became good once again. Favorable water coloration along the near shore provided sweet brown trout fishing with the 4 mile point area being particularly productive. Move on out, fish the bottom and you will find lakers. Add a few more RPM’s to your troll, send down a presentation of traditional salmon stuff and a king or coho, can be yours. Hopefully, the winds will cooperate and weekend fishing in the Mexico Bay area will continue to provide plenty of angling entertainment. Small rainbows just under 21†seem plentiful; they need to be returned to the water very quickly to insure a high survival rate.
Salmon River report:According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop & Motel:As happens at this time every year, things have quieted down along the river. The steelhead season has finished up and the majority of fish have dropped back to Lake Ontario. We appreciate your following our reports and look forward to being back with you for salmon season.
Pulaski Area report:According to Dave Wood of Woody’s Tackle:The weekend weather looks much more promising for fishing after last weekend and the reports from the last few days have been good. Brown trout are active in 20-50 feet of water, salmon are out deeper in the 105-120 foot range and you will likely find some lake trout at this depth also.
Oneida Lake report:As we had hoped, the walleyes were hungry this week. Reports indicate there was good fishing in 16-20 feet of water. Spinners, jigs and stickbaits are the choice of bait. Black/blue and black/green are good color choices. Look for pickerel in more shallow depths along the shoreline. Crappies are active in the Toad Harbor area and look for bluegills and bullhead in the Big Bay area.
Sandy Pond report:According to Dave Wood of Woody’s Tackle:Reports are fishing is good since things have settled down from last weekend’s wild weather. Look for walleye action with worm harnesses and stickbaits. Perch are taking minnows and the crappie bite has picked up again.
