Rivalry weekend recap between Fulton – Oswego athletics

On Saturday, April 23, the Fulton – Oswego rivalry turned it up a notch by having a full day of athletics at the Fulton Complex. Games and matches were played all day long spread throughout the playing fields. With five different varsity sports taking part in this rivalry day, Oswego won the day overall, including a win in boys lacrosse to split the season series of ‘The Pathfinder Cross’ trophy, but the Fulton girls lacrosse team found a way to stay perfect on the year.

Fulton boys tennis defeats Oswego 4-3

After Oswego’s Hunter Mazuroski took the first set 6-3 from Eric Shear of Fulton, it was Shear who won the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2. The Buccaneers won the next two singles matches with wins by Patrick Dowdle and Philip Cummings. Dowdle beat Charles Hyland III 7-5, 7-5 and Cummings was victorious 6-4, 6-2 over Bayley Raponi.

Doubles was controlled by the Raiders as Anthony Salerno and Robert Salerno handled Alex Haessig and Noah Wells 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3. The next pairing was Jesse Smithers and Ryan Lalik of Fulton, who beat Nick Holland and Nicholas Hurlbutt 6-4, 6-3.

The Raiders won the overall match 4-3, improving their record to 6-2 and sitting in second place in OHSL Freedom American League. Oswego is 2-6 on the season, putting them in fourth place in the league.

Oswego outlasted Fulton 9-7 on the diamond

Oswego (6-2) used a four-run sixth inning to propel themselves to a 9-7 win over host Fulton (4-4). Behind a slew of consistent hitters for the Buccaneers, the OHSL Freedom American squad managed to collect 11 hits. Joe Wallace led the way with three hits. Elijah Dandrich, Alex Davies and Dustin DeGrenier all totaled two runs apiece helping Oswego, while Wallace received the win on the mound behind seven strikeouts.

Recovering from two strikeouts, Fulton’s Cody Green managed to score two runs off his two hits, which drove in an RBI for the Raiders. Cameron Clark and Malcolm Wettering also had multiple hit games for Fulton in their close decision with rival Oswego.

Oswego softball outlasts Fulton with four-run inning to win 7-6

It was the Lady Buccaneers (4-2) that came out of the gates swinging, scoring six runs within the first two innings, including four runs in the second inning. Fulton (1-4) pitcher Camille Stevenson grounded herself and did not allow Oswego to tally a run in the third inning. The Lady Raiders rallied back with their bats to cut the deficit to one run, 6-5, by scoring an impressive five runs in the third inning. Each squad scored one more run in the game, leading to a 7-6 Buccaneers victory.

Kelci Somers led the Buccaneers with two hits and three runs, Natasha Mezza led the team with three RBI’s off of one hit (double). Mariah Galletta scored two runs and drove in two RBI’s for Oswego. Galletta also got the win, pitching 4.1 innings. She allowed one run, three hits and had two strikeouts after coming in for Hannah Gorman.

Brynn Waloven paced Fulton with two RBI’s and one run off of two doubles. Stevenson received the loss for the Raiders after lasting the entire game, but had five strikeouts.

Buccaneers lacrosse win with consistency over Fulton

Oswego showed consistent scoring throughout the game to pace themselves to an 8-5 victory in ‘The Pathfinder Cross’ game against rival Fulton on Saturday. Junior midfielder Trey Clark led the Buccaneers with three goals and two assists.

The Buccaneers found the back of the net three times in the game’s opening quarter, then used a 5-3 halftime lead the control the remainder of the contest. Another three-goal quarter in the fourth helped out the blue and white.

Junior midfielder Austin Nearbin tallied two goals on the day. Also recording two points were attackmen Isaiah Love and Mark Schuffenecker. Love had a goal and an assist while his running mate scored two goals.

Fulton was limited to single goal quarters in all but the second quarter. This proved to be the difference maker in the game. Goaltender Brandon Batstone played well between the pipes for the Raiders, as he recorded 15 saves in the game.

Senior attackman Austin Wilde led the way for Fulton as he had four points in the game, including two goals. Fellow attackman Austin Vashaw also recorded two goals in the game.

The loss drops Fulton to 4-4 on the season, while it gives the Buccaneers their second tally in the win column for the year.

With the win, Oswego splits the season series with the Raiders for ‘The Pathfinder Cross’ trophy.

Fulton girls lacrosse stays unbeaten with victory over Oswego

The Fulton Lady Raiders lacrosse team remains a perfect 7-0 on the season after handling the visiting Oswego Lady Buccaneers 16-9 on Saturday.

Fulton scored in bunches as they consistently found the back of the net. The team made their way into halftime with a comfortable 8-4 lead and they never looked back.

The undefeated squad was led by Hailey Carroll and Mckenna Chesbro, who each tallied six points in the game. Carroll scored three goals, bringing her season total up to a team-high 29, and dished out three assists; while Chesbro put four scores past the goalie.

Kaylin Pafumi stood tall in the net for the Lady Raiders as she turned away nine shots, but the game was all about Fulton’s firepower.

Makayla Mesec tallied a hat trick for the Lady Buccaneers, but between her scoring and Clare Culeton’s game-high four assists and five points total, Oswego could not find a way to get through the Fulton defense. Alyssia Vega totaled 15 saves for her team in goal.
