County To Further Scrutinize Options For Health Care Programs

A resolution to initiate a request for proposals to explore alternatives for home health care in the county was sent back to the committee level at this month’s legislature meeting. Legislators have several questions about how this will impact the county’s employees and budget. New York State is no longer providing state aid reimbursements to counties for their Certified Home Health Agency (CHHA) and Long Term Care (LTC) programs.

Youth Aid Penny Drive For Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry

From left: Kameron Ruggles, Kyle Ruggles, Suly Jaggers and Jessica Pekow make a donation to Christie Hoefer’s Pennies 4 Pantries campaign to raise one million pennies for the food pantry at Catholic Charities of Oswego County. For their donation they held a small yard sale and collected pennies from families in their neighborhood. Collection jars can be found at area businesses. And, Christie will be at various businesses to visit with community members and accept donations.

What began as one girl’s quest to help feed families in need in Oswego County is starting to gain momentum and inspiring others. Earlier this month Christie Hoefer, a senior at Oswego High School launched her Pennies 4 Pantries drive to collect one million pennies in support of Catholic Charities of Oswego County’s food pantry.

Water Treatment Plant May Pump Up Area’s Economy

An underutilized facility at the former Miller Brewery in Volney could help boost economic development in the region. “They have an asset right now that is an underutilized wastewater treatment plant that is actually large enough to serve a city with a population of 350,000 people. It’s a real shame to have an asset like that sit unused,” proponents of the project said.
