The Beleaguered Northeast Biofuels Found A New Owner In May
Sunoco submitted the winning bid of $8.5 million. Northeast Biofuels had never reached full production and declared bankruptcy in January. Also in May, voters OK’d the Oswego City School District budget and sent Fran Hoefer back to the school board.

In April Chamber, Harborfest Named New Directors
A pair of Oswego natives returned to the Port City to begin new careers. Tom Van Schaack was announced as Harborfest’s new leader and Beth (Dice) Hilton was named executive director of the chamber of commerce.

Oswego School District Honored Murabito In March
The media center in Oswego High School was officially dedicated in memory of the former principal. Murabito was a very active member of Rotary for more than 50 years, according to Superintendent Bill Crist.

Oswego County Remembers A Well-Known Musician In February
Andy Pawlenko lost his battle with cancer in 2007. His daughter used some of his music to create a CD. In early 2009, she donated the proceeds to the Charlie and Mary Haney Cancer Giving Fund of Oswego County, which helps pay for cancer treatments for people who don’t have health insurance.
