Some board members feel the students would benefit more if parent-teacher conferences didn’t cut several school days in half. Also, a move to extend the superintendent’s contract was tabled. Board members want to discuss the matter more before voting.
The April regular meeting for the Oswego City School District Board of Education is scheduled for April 26 at 6 p.m. at the Education Center board room. On April 25, at 9 a.m. members will gather at the Education Center to vote on the BOCES budget and elect members to the BOCES board.
Board members approved a decision to appeal the state Supreme Court ruling last month that dismissed the district’s petition challenging the tax agreement with Nine Mile Point Unit I. The board also approved the proposed budget for 2011-2012. The budget proposal is $74, 744,748 and contains a zero percent tax levy increase.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools will listen to the community on March 29. Beginning at 6 p.m. a preliminary budget hearing will be conducted in the board room at the Education Center.
Rising costs for health insurance and pensions are described as ‘a runaway train.’ The district is not sure currently how much state aid it will receive and the amount Nine Mile I and II nuclear plants will pay in taxes for the coming school year. The tentative budget plan will be on the agenda for discussion at next month’s finance committee meeting.
The meeting will be called to order at 6 p.m. with the board adjourning to executive session to discuss personnel matters. It is expected the public portion of the meeting will convene at 7 p.m. in the board room.
The Oswego School Board will present its trimmed down version of the 2011-12 draft budget to the administration by the end of the week. According to board vice president John Dunsmoor, chair of the BOE’s finance committee, the tentative budget might include a two percent tax levy increase.
