Oswego Opera Theatre picked Georges Bizet’s popular opera to open its 30th anniversary season because it is one of the top three (operas), “ABCs, as they’re called; ‘Aida,’ ‘La Boheme,’ and ‘Carmen.” The cast features professionals and a host of local talent. The actors’ ages range from 8 to into their 70s.
The Oswego Players latest production, Frederick Stroppel’s dramatic comedy ‘The Christmas Spirit’. will be led by three time director Troy Pepper. Mr. Pepper directed a number of Player’s productions since becoming involved with the organization including Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, and last year’s well thought of version of ‘Born Yesterday’ ‘ I like to bring back the old classic plays, that haven’t been seen for awhile,’ Mr. Pepper stated recently. ‘Sometimes, older is better particularly in comedy.’
The Oswego Children’s Theater has completed casting for their next production, a Holiday Twin Bill of two one act plays. “The Best Christmas Pageant Everâ€ÂÂand “Our Christmas Carolâ€ÂÂ.
Theatregoers should expect a sprightly spoof of amateur theatre when the SUNY Oswego theatre department starts its 2008-09 season with “The Torch Bearers,” opening Oct. 15 in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.
Visitors to “Astro-rama,” a free outdoor performance at SUNY Oswego, may be watching the skies as well as the production.
Written by George Kelly, the play offers a look at a hapless community theatre troupe led by eccentric and pompous directress Mrs. Pampinelli, played by Sara Weiler.
