State Police say a Central Square man threatened to stab one person and tried to run over another man during what they called a road rage incident.
It happened along County Route 37 in the town of West Monroe.
Police allege that Darren C. Spalsbury, 19, of 2595 County Route 37, Central Square, felt that the car behind his was following too closely.
According to the police report of the incident, Spalsbury stopped his car in the road and got out. He walked to the trailing car carrying a knife and threatened to stab the driver, police alleged.
A person watching the event tried to calm the situation and convince Spalsbury to wait for police to arrive. Instead, police say, Spalsbury got back in his car and tried three times to run over the bystander.
He then got out of the car and shoved other passing drivers who had stopped to try to help, police say.
Troopers charged him with a felony count of reckless endangerment, misdemeanor counts of menacing and resisting arrest and two violation counts of harassment.
He was sent to the county jail in lieu of $6,000 bail or $12,000 bail bond.
Spalsbury’s passenger, Christine Shelter, 19, was ticketed for obstructing governmental administration for allegedly trying to prevent Spalsbury’s arrest.
