A Fulton man who stopped to help another person along busy Route 3 was killed in the midst of completing his good deed.

State Police report that Pedro A. Lugo, 69, of 107 W. 4th St., Fulton spotted a car on the side of the road near the Rathburn Rd. intersection at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He pulled over to help the woman fix a flat tire, said State Police spokesman Tpr. Jack Keller. He then got back in his car and began to execute a U-turn in order to give her car a jump start.
His SUV was hit broadside by a tractor-trailer driven by Gary M. Hall, 58, of 323 County Route 3, Fulton. Hall told police that he saw the two vehicles on the side of the road, but he never expected that Lugo would pull out into traffic.

The SUV was driven several hundred yards by the force of the collision.
Lugo was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown through the back window of his Chevy Blazer and suffered massive injuries. Lugo was pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital.
Hall was not injured. The other driver was not identified.
Route 3 was closed between Rathburn Rd. and County Route 7 until about 8:30 p.m. while police technicians documented the accident and removed the vehicles.
