Oswego County Residents Can Make Appointments for H1N1 Flu Vaccine

Nov 18, 2009 at 5:15 am

OSWEGO – The Oswego County Health Department has received additional H1N1 flu vaccine and will accept calls for appointments on Thursday, Nov. 19, and Friday, Nov. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until all appointments are filled. People who are in priority groups for receiving the vaccine as noted below may call for appointments.

The health department’s current supply of vaccine for pregnant women has been depleted. Dr. Norfleet recommends that pregnant women contact their OB provider to seek vaccine. The injectable vaccine is available for people in all other priority groups for whom the H1N1 vaccine is recommended.

Residents in the following priority groups may call for an appointment:

· Infants six months to 35 months of age; please be aware that the only vaccine the health department currently has available for infants does contain thimerosal;
· Household contacts and caregivers of children less than 6 months of age;
· Children and young adults ages three to 24 years old;
· Health care workers and EMS providers;
· People ages 25 to 64 who have a chronic underlying medical condition.

To make an appointment for the H1N1 flu vaccine, residents should call the health department starting Nov. 19 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 349-3572 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3572. This number will be staffed until all appointment times are filled.

There is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine.

The health department anticipates that it will continue to receive additional shipments of H1N1 vaccine over the next several weeks and will notify the public through the media as it becomes available. The above telephone number will also carry a message regarding availability of H1N1 influenza vaccine.
