SUNY Oswego Family, Friends Weekend Oct. 16 to 18

OSWEGO — A variety of performances, athletic events, dinners and other activities will mark SUNY Oswego’s Family and Friends Weekend, Oct. 16 to 18.

This Oswego tradition provides an opportunity for family and friends to visit Oswego students to see how they have become involved in various aspects of campus life.

Student entertainment will include a variety of campus clubs showcasing their skills at 1 p.m. Saturday, college musical groups performing at noon Sunday and the student theatre production “War of the Worlds” all three days.

Saturday boasts the most special events, including a Faculty-Staff Coffee Hour at 10 a.m. to welcome students and visitors, mini-carnival at 2 p.m., splash-in movie at 8 p.m., Penfield Library book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and guest performers such as the Airplay Jugglers (3 p.m.) and mentalist Craig Karges (8 p.m.).

Intercollegiate athletics contests will include men’s soccer taking on Brockport (3 p.m.) and women’s field hockey hosting Oneonta (4:30 p.m.) on Friday afternoon, with Saturday action including a men’s ice hockey exhibition vs. Royal Military College (7 p.m.), field hockey vs. New Paltz (1 p.m.) and men’s soccer vs. Geneseo (3 p.m.). The men’s lacrosse team will have a “Green/Gold/Pink” scrimmage and Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser at 3 p.m. Saturday. In addition, the women’s club ice hockey team will host a tournament Saturday and Sunday.

For those looking for a little exercise, open recreation, open skate and open swim are available, as well a basketball 3-point shooting contest.

Dining opportunities throughout the weekend include the Kosher Shabbat Dinner at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dining with Family and Friends (with pre-registration required) 5 p.m. Saturday and special $4.99 all-you-can-eat offers in dining halls throughout the weekend.
