William H. “Bill” Lupien, 72, of Oswego died Friday peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
Oswego County Opportunities’ honorary Head Pin, the Pink Guardian Angel, learned about OCO’s Respite Program when it stopped by the agency’s respite home in Oswego. The only one of its kind in Oswego County, OCO’s respite home was established in 2006 and is designed specifically to provide relief to caregivers of developmentally disabled children and adults.
Assemblyman Will Barclay presented a pair of local heroes with NYS Assembly Resolutions honoring them for their life-saving efforts in January. Lori Lawton, an Oswego City School District bus aide, and Jack Zeller, a bus driver for the district, were honored at the Transportation Center during a brief ceremony March 11 attended by dozens of their friends, family and co-workers.
The next Oswego City School District Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, March 21 at 6 p.m. The superintendent of schools will present his proposed 2011-2012 budget to the board and community.
New York’s youth smokers are smoking the same heavily marketed brands as New York’s adults, according to a report issued by the State Health Department. The report (“Established Youth Smokers in New York Prefer the Same Brands of Cigarettes as Adult Smokers”) says that about 75% of established high school smokers in New York preferred Newport, Marlboro or Camel cigarettes in 2010.
“Due to my work commitment, commencing on Monday (March 14) and continuing for approximately five weeks, it will be necessary to change my posted hours that I will be present in the mayor’s office to all day on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by appointment,” Mayor Randy Bateman said.

Fitzhugh Park Elementary School’s March Madness month continued on Friday with Denim Day. Students were asked to wear denim. Donations were given to Move Along Inc.

Lisa Kanbur, a sixth grade student at Leighton Elementary School, and Andrew Nicolias, a student at Onondaga Hill Middle School, were recently named semi-finalists in the Cassini Scientist for a Day online essay contest.
Lucas James Ketcham was born in Oswego Hospital on March 9, 2011.
