ARC Gala Fundraiser Set for October 22
ARC of Oswego County has announced the date for its 6th Annual ARC of Oswego County Gala fundraiser. The Gala this year will be located in the elegant surroundings of Oasis at Thunder Island, and will feature live entertainment from the Cortini Brothers, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, raffles, and more.

Cayuga Community College Budget Approved; Tuition to Rise
Cayuga County lawmakers Tuesday night approved the operating budget for Cayuga Community College for the 2011-12 school year, which contains a 7% increase in tuition.
The college did not get what it asked for, though.

Siren Tests Scheduled for Aug. 1 – 5
Quarterly tests of the emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants in Scriba will take place Monday through Friday, Aug. 1 through 5. The sirens will be activated between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Oswego Woman Drowns at Fair Haven
An Oswego woman died in the waters of Lake Ontario Tuesday during an attempt to rescue children who appeared to be struggling in the waves.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department says Shaylean S. Richards, 32, of Oswego died in an apparent drowning.
Cayuga CC and Geospatial Institute Receive an International Award for GIS Programs
Cayuga Community College and the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT) received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the Esri International User Conference (Esri UC) in San Diego, California, on July 13, 2011. This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri’s geographic information system (GIS) technology.
