Pinwheels to fight Child Abuse Project Under Way

The fight against child abuse has been undertaken throughout the Oswego City School District. Currently a fundraiser to benefit the Child Advocacy Center and Prevent Child Abuse NY is being conducted at every school. Students and staff can purchase pinwheels to created a pinwheel garden to serve as a symbol for child abuse prevention.

Volney Elementary keeps up Earth Day Tradition

First grader Lucas helps beautify the school. Today (May 17), marked Volney Elementary’s annual Earth Day Celebration.  Earth Day is an all-day event and has been a Volney staple for more than 15 years. “The kids are excited about this day every year,” said Principal Jeff Hendrickson. “It’s tradition. It’s become one of those things that’s expected.”

The board will discuss this matter during a special session at 6 p.m. May 17 in the college’s Business Industry Center in the James T. What’s New at Old Fort Ontario

Fort Ontario State Historic Site opens May 18 and will host a variety of special events, including a French and Indian War living history event on June 29 and 30. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the end of the French and Indian War, and the beginning of Pontiac’s Rebellion which ended at Oswego in 1766 with the Treaty of Fort Ontario.   Re-enactors from around the United States and Canada will converge on Oswego to recreate the failed French attack on Fort Ontario in 1759 which helped seal the fate of France’s North American Colony.In 2013 Fort Ontario State Historic Site will be open to the public from Saturday to October 13. Visiting hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fort will be open seven days a week during the peak of tourist season from June 26 through Labor Day. Admission prices will remain the same as last year.

Fulton Art Association Show, Competition Set This Weekend

The Fulton Art Association will present its 40th Annual Art Show and Competition this weekend, May 18 and 19. The show opens Saturday at 10 a.m. and goes until 8 p.m., and again Sunday 2-4 p.m. An artists’ reception will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, providing a venue with several artists available for comments on techniques.

Oswego School Budget and Bus Information Programs on WBUC

Brief budget and bus proposition programs have been produced by Oswego High School WBUC. Superintendent of Schools Bill Crist and District Clerk Bill Foley discussed  the propositions. The programs will air on WBUC (Time Warner Channel 16) during the weekend and through Monday evening, at 5-6 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.
