Many people think of Memorial Day as the “unofficial” start to summer. But, for me, there’s something else that signals the start of the season: the opening of farmers’ markets across Central and Northern New York.
The Eagles Fan Club at Oswego Speedway announced on Tuesday a partnership with Oswego’s Chris Nelson Insurance of State Farm to give away four brand new Hoosier Racing Tires during the 2013 season at the ‘Steel Palace.’ The first give away will be this Saturday at the Speedway as a part of Crop Production Services Night at the Races.
Hosted by Catholic Charities of Oswego County’s Family Education and Partnerships and Family Support Services programs, the Family Fun Day offers families who have a child with a mental health diagnosis an afternoon of games and activities for the whole family. Families will also have the opportunity to learn more about the programs and how they may enhance the quality of themselves and their children.

Kyle C. Miller of Hastings was among the 548 students awarded a degree at St. Lawrence University’s Commencement ceremony, held May 19 on campus in Canton. Miller was awarded a degree in economics and is a graduate of Paul V. Moore High School.
Senior Day is an annual event at Oswego County BOCES, marking a time to celebrate and honor graduates for their hard work and educational achievements.
He is alleged to have been growing marihuana plants in his residence. An investigation showed that he was also receiving HEAP services from December 2008 through September 2010 in the amount of $2,500 fraudulently by not disclosing information regarding his identity, according to deputies.
The Common Council will soon be considering a resolution that will result in the elimination of positions within the fire department. There are currently four newly created vacancies that were included in the 2013 budget and anticipated to be filled. This comes as a surprise, based on the fact that we recently suffered cuts to daily staffing and made concessions through contract negotiations to accommodate the 2013 budget.
