Onylee Elizabeth Gratzer, 96, a resident of The Manor at Seneca Hill (and formerly of Greece, NY) passed away very peacefully on Saturday June 1, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and caring staff at The Manor.

DREAM Act Would Place Strain on Taxpayers; Takes Away from Legal Immigrants, Middle Class
The New York City sponsors of this legislation have billed it as the DREAM Act. However, because it will place an increased burden on our State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), this could become a financial nightmare for the state and for those lower-and middle-class families who are already struggling to afford the ever increasing cost of higher education.

Port City Roller Derby to host Albany All-Stars June 15
Port City’s Breakwall Bombshells dropped a hard-hitting 184-140 bout to Albany’s A team on the road in early May. For the Oswego rematch, the teams should take the floor around 7:30. An intraleague scrimmage for the new juniors team, the Lagoon Squad, will start at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Laura Brown, coordinator of the Gerontology Minor Program at SUNY Oswego presents Melanie Trexler, executive director, United Way of Greater Oswego County, with a donation of children books that she and her students collected in support of the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County’s annual Children’s Book Drive.

Community Honors Distinguished Veterans During Ceremony in Clay
On June 1 the Thank a Service Member charity in partnership with Macy’s paid tribute to local veterans during a public ceremony at Great Northern Mall. During the event Peter Allen, founder and executive director of TASM, presented each of the veterans with a special medallion intended to honor their service and serve as a lasting reminder of the appreciation of a grateful community.

‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries Continues Saturday at Oswego Speedway
The evening’s racing will feature the second ISMA Supermodified main event of the 2013 season which will run 50-laps in length, as well as a 35-lap Pathfinder Bank SBS feature presented by Crop Production Services. With the help of Shea Concrete, the overall point champion of the four race series will take home a cool $2,000, with the top five in the overall standings receiving additional bonus cash.

Jacqueline M. Thorpe is among the Leadership Oswego County class of 2012-2013. The class is designed to help train the next generation of local leaders while through education, community involvement and volunteerism.

Oswego School Committees, Board Meets Tuesday at Ed Center
The Oswego City School District Board of Education will conduct its committee meetings followed by a brief regular meeting at the Education Center Board Room on Tuesday. The committee meetings provide an opportunity for audience members to participate in the process.
