New York Tax Reform and Fairness Commission Outlines Reforms

It is hardly surprising then that the Governor, being the politician that he is, has appointed not one, but two, commissions to examine how to reform New York’s tax system.  The first commission he appointed, with the Orwellian name, “New York State Tax Reform and Fairness Commission” released its report last month. Notwithstanding its name, the report contains some good ideas on how New York should reform its tax structure.

This time of year, get-togethers are not only a great way to spend quality time with family and friends, they are also an opportunity to treat ourselves to our favorites, whether it be Christmas cookies, hot cocoa, mulled cider, eggnog or any of the season’s specialties. Much of the food and drink we enjoy during the holidays (and in fact year-round) is produced right here in New York.

Beautiful Poinsettias Donated to Richardson-Bates House Museum for Holiday Decor

Shown choosing the flowers, at left is Angela Lund, community coordinator for the Oswego Wal-Mart and Peg McKinstry.The Oswego County Historical Society received a generous gift of a dozen poinsettias from the Oswego Wal-Mart to add to the holiday decor of the Richardson-Bates House Museum. Located at 135 E. Third St., the museum is currently decorated in the Victorian spirit for the Christmas season.

Gingerbread, Fractions and Modules Produce Solid Results at KPS

The sixth grade team at the Kingsford Park Elementary School decided to “sweeten up” the New York State Modules by implementing the lesson on the “Division of Fractions” to making gingerbread ornaments. Students enjoyed the undertaking and gathered with some of the products they used or produced.

Port City’s Parking Restrictions Start Dec. 11

The “Alternate-Side Parking Restriction” will be in effect, commencing Wednesday at 1 a.m. During such time as the parking restriction is imposed, the parking of any vehicle on any city street or highway from 1 to 6 a.m. on an even numbered side of the street on an odd calendar day, or an odd numbered side of the street on an even calendar day, shall be prohibited.
