The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. May 6, at the Department of Social Services, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents.
An exciting and emotional evening was spent by nearly 100 Oswego High School former athletes and coaches along with family, friends and Buc sports fans as the “Class of 2012” was inducted in the Buccaneer Booster – Oswego High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Port City Roller Derby aims for a meaty fundraiser when it hosts a chicken and pulled pork barbecue from noon to 6 p.m. May 11, at sponsor Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego. Dinners of chicken or pork cost $8 apiece and also will feature sides and a dessert. The event will include a homemade bake sale and a variety of raffles for prizes.
GENIUS officials chose 311 projects as finalists among 765 entries, up from 248 of 663 projects selected in 2012. Samuel J. Giambo, 80, of Oswego, died Saturday April 27, 2013, after a sudden illness while on vacation.

UPDATE: Tentative cause said to be heat generated from a torch or similar device while contractors were performing work on the front porch roof earlier in the evening.
There were no injuries reported in the fire late Monday at 85 E. Utica St., according to Jeff McCrobie, fire chief. The fire was noticed by one of the occupants of the home and reported at 10:49 p.m.
