Area residents named to SUNY Oswego Deans’ List

At 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, Oswego County 911 dispatched the Oswego City Fire Department to 287 Cherry St. for a fire in an upstairs apartment with “smoke and flames showing.” All occupants had safely exited the building before firefighters arrived. However, a cat and dog belonging to the upstairs tenants perished in the fire. Fire investigators from the Oswego Fire Department and Oswego Police Department determined that the fire was caused accidentally by unattended cooking.
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team fell 3-2 to Elmira College, snapping their five-game winning streak. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 11-3-2 while the Soaring Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team had a late run contribute to a 66-62 loss to Geneseo at home on Saturday night. With the loss, Oswego drops to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to Geneseo 69-50 on Saturday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-9 on the year and 2-6 in conference play.
Jeanna Smith and Mark Spawn were married on December 27 in Newport Beach. Guests included family and friends of the bride and groom from California and New York. The ceremony took place on the Balboa Peninsula and was officiated by the bride’s brother, Randall Smith. Maid of Honor was Stacy Finfrock, lifetime friend of the bride. The groom’s daughter, Alyssa Spawn of Fulton, NY, was Best Daughter.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey moved past host Buffalo State 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in an ECAC West matchup. Oswego’s win improves the team’s conference mark to 5-1-1 on the year and 9-4-1 overall. The Bengals remain winless on the season, falling to 0-14, 0-7.
Parents of Special Children, Inc., will be hosting a free workshop on “Understanding Diploma & Credential Options” for parents and guardians of students of disabilities. This training, being offered through SUPAC, will provide families with important information to help them understand these options to become an active participant in the transition planning process.
Fulton Rotary Club President, Jerry Seguin, presented a check in the amount of $152 to Wynette Dohse and Pauline Rasbeck. The $152 will buy another set of books for the Charlotte’s Webb program being conducted in the Fulton schools.
